As a way of how opening Matches go on AEW PPV’s, this one lived up to the minor hype that it had online. I loved how the battle became the main storyline in the between all three teams, especially as time went into the final moments. The insyncricity between all involved was awesome, as those Canadian destroyers just kept on coming, my god there poor necks. The Bucks got the win, and this genuinely pleased me.

Kenny Omega vs Zac Sabre Jnr.

As I sit here on a Monday Afternoon, having just watched the PPV, when it came to this Match, the only thing that came to my mind was food, let me explain. My favourite two foods are Pepperoni Pizza, and Ice Cream, because after yhese two Imidiately end up wanting more, and more. This is the perfect way to describe this Match, because this felt like a perfectly booked buffet of both styles that both NJPW, and. AEW are known to give fans. On one hand you’ve got superb technical Pro Wrestling, and on the otherside you’ve got the hardhitting spots. This Match had all of that. This was a visceral, physical affair that worked in the order of echoes, patience, and, grace. This one of favourite Matches of the year, and as Nigel Mcguinness said it best. This was a Dream Match. Kenny got the win, now someone please hand me the sprinkles and chocolate sauce.

Jon Moxley vs Bandido AEW Continental Championship.

When I looked at this card in full, this Match stood out, due to the fact that you knew how the story of the Match was going to play out. Jon Moxley has the attitude of a man who says never say die, whilst Bandido has the energy of a man that has drunk 5 cans of monster back to back. The big question was just was Moxley going to slow him down. Well the answer to that was simple. Bloodsoaked violence. Bandido getting busted open soon became the story of the Match, this led to Moxley trying to remove his mask, but failing, this came as both mens energy levels started to have wavering effects, but it was Mox who got the win and retained his belt by choking out the Mexican superstar.

Shota Umino vs Pac IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

This was when the PPV started to take a dip in my opinion. Now I know that I can’t talk for everyone, but this felt like a Dynamite Match taking place on a PPV. The physicality was good, but the overall presentation just felt a bit same old, same old. Umino got the win, and retained his belt.

Thekla vs Starlight Kid AEW Womens Championship.

And the slump continues. This was another Match that did nothing for me. This is no disrespect to the ladies, I just struggled to get into this. This is because like the Match before it. I colud tell where it was going to go, and this took me away from the action. The physicality was good, but the overall presentation was a bit predictable. Oh but Thekla’s old boss looked like he was having a lovely time.

Cope And Cage vs The Dogs AEW Tag Team Championship.

This was when the card started to pick back up. From The Dogs entering doing there best deck a photographer impersonation, to the fans nearly making Cope look visibly shaken when sang his theme. This was the set up what was to come. The physicality looked fresh, and the booking made sense. I’m going to be honest I’m not the biggest fan of The Dogs, but this was there best outing in an AEW ring so far. As the final exchanges got going, the lights went out, and just like that there stood the bang bang gang, and just like that, after Tony Khan had put some money in the metre, there stood a returning Jay White, this allowed Adam Copeland to hit a sphere on David Finlay for the win. I liked this.

Mercedes Mone vs Maya World Owen Hart Tournament Womens Final.

From the very outset I could tell that this was going to be special. Maya has shown tremendous strength in eye of personal tragedy, and last night must’ve meant the world to her, even if it was a losing effort. The bursts of energy from both ladies was great, as this allowed elements of the story to come to life. Mercedes managed to get the best out of Maya, as the world was made to look at a future of this business. Maya and Mercedes had great chemistry, this was beyond important, because this allowed the story of hero vs legend to play out. Mercedes got the win with statement maker submission hold. This Match was excellent.

Steel Cage Deaths Door Team MJF vs Team Briscoe.

From the outset of the PPVwe were treated to what the steel cage looks like, and the only thing that came to my mind was the fact that it looked like a roman colliseum, and just like that the stage was set for some good old fashioned blood soaked violence. I loved all of this. From interwinding storylines being allowed to be brought into the violence, as the Matches within the Matches became the backbone of the story, as the moments went from making me laugh, to Lio Rush turning up in a sports bag, and Andrade El Idolo turning babyface, after the layers of distrust started to evaporate between him, and MJF. The weapon spots were timed to perfection. From thumbtacks to Mark Briscoe having some ladder fun. Roderick Strong and Jake Doyle had an appointment with a table, and Kyle Fletcher had a minor Match complete with an awesome table spot with Kyle Fletcher. Kevin Knight then got shocked on top of the cage, because Darby Allin had booby trapped the top of the cage, Darby then gave his former friend a coffin drop to seal his fate. Mark in the final exchanges managed to hit a Jaydriller on Jake Doyle to get the win for his team. Tony Khan later on confirmed that Marks title Match against MJF will take place on Dynamite this coming wednesday. This came after he made the challenge in the aftermath, when being interviewed by Renee Paquette.

Will Osperay vs Swerve Strickland Owen Hart Tournament Mens Final.

This was my Match of the night. From both mens entrances you could see the major eye for detail that worked to delve into the culture of the alternative universe. Will came out dressed in Bane from The Dark Knight Rises inspired gear, whilst Swerve came on a bike, that looked like it had come from the set of Sons Of Swervarchy. Will had a video introduction narrated by Jon Moxley, which gave gravitas to the Match, and just like that we were off to the bloodsoaked races. From the start of the sounding bell, the match lasted for just under forty minutes, normally if a Match lasts this long, you could easily get bored, that wasn’t the case here. This was a majestic blooddraining thrill ride, that worked on every level, and was filled with velocity. I could sit here, and go through this Match move by move, but if I did, then it wouldn’t do the Match any justice. So i’m just going to say this. You need to check this out for yourself. Osperay is on his way to Wembley, and as a fan who will be attending All In, all I can say is this. I think this is the correct booking decision.

Going into this PPV My excitement levels were solid, coming off the back of Double Or Nothing, and if i’m being honest this PPV didn’t match that show, however what we got was a solid crossover show, that managed to bridge the gap
